Scared Hair... and other adventures

So our little bean-child is just over 7 months now- we're so happy that our lack of experience as parents hasn't stunted his growth or anything of the sort, so other than being just a tad bit lazy (yes babies can be lazy) he is growing up quite nicely. Currently he is suffering from a severe cold...my worst nightmare as snot makes me gag, and snot bubbles, well don't even get me started- lets just say it's a sad story over here. But just before his cold hit hard I snapped a few pictures of our little stud at his 7 month mark...

 Oh yes, he knows he's cute and uses it to his advantage every day, like for instance while he's eating and decides to take a dino chomp of his mother...I have tried to very sternly tell him NO BITING- yeah, it doesn't work he just smiles at me like he's saying "Did you notice how well I can use my teeth mom, did you, did you?" So pretty much he better just hope he doesn't pop the top ones through for a while because when he does, he might be saying a dios to his favorite bottle...now on another note, if you haven't noticed in his pictures before, take a look at this...

His hair stands straight up on end!!!! In the Hegstrom family we call this scared hair apparently it's been passed down for generations, and his father sported it quite nicely.

As you can see here...

Now one may ask, "why is it scared?" The answer...we can only speculate...

*Maybe the fear of laying down and conforming...
*Maybe it's standing for something...like say no to cradle cap...which gratefully we didn't deal with
*Maybe it's a little lacking in confidence and it's feeling the need to impress (well if that's the case than my 
  hair is extremely over-confident and has  
  lost all desire to impress anyone- in fact i think it has laid down and died)
*Maybe it's rising above a mediocre standard
*Maybe it's just plain afraid that if it sits down no one will notice it's there-

...well scared hair, we've noticed you- we think you're pretty cute, you definitely make yourself known as a unique individual and we hope that you continue to fill out, grow, and reach your full potential. So keep on standing, but just know that there's nothing to be afraid of... except potentially a zombie apocalypse, one never knows.

Another new thing, our little boy sleeps sometimes in the cutest positions...and I caught this the other day...he looks like a little WORM!

Anyway, thanks for stopping by to catch a glimpse of our life's adventure- rarely a dull moment, and definitely not a dull child...he's got so much spunk and we can only imagine at this point who he'll take after, wait who are we kidding, he's a spitting image of his father...and not just in appearance- but he's got just a hint of his momma, though I can't quite put my finger on what it is but most importantly he thinks I am all that is good and perfect in his little life, and what more could I ask for.

I never knew how sweet life could be...with all of it's ups, downs, twists and turns there is no one else I would rather spend an eternity with than my sweet husband and little boy. I wouldn't take back a second of the time we had together, just the two of us, but I wouldn't trade a moment of the last 7 months with our little boy. I think we have finally begun to truly understand this silly thing called LOVE.

Let's just say it was pretty funny...

SIX MONTHS OLD!!!!!

Wow- really that's the jist of what I have to say today- I can't believe it but on the 23rd of January my little baby became half a year old! Where does the time go? So since you're dying to know how big he is at six months- here you go...

18.3 lbs - 59th perc.
26.5 in. long - 48th perc.
17.5 in. head - 68th perc.

And here's what he's up to at six months....

Has two teeth- and he loves to use them on ANYTHING!!

He can sit up pretty well on  his own

LOVES his sippy cup

 

Likes to hang out on his care bears blanket much to his father's dismay- oh and he prefers to be mostly naked

So I am trying to keep up with this silly little blog of ours probably more for our sake than anyone else's, but I thought I would just pop on here and put another little update, I mean our little boy is a week shy of being 1/2  of a year old, and I always feel like there is so much going on, strangely since I started typing I can't seem to think of anything to say, so I will just post some picture updates since those are way more exciting than words, and go from there!

Teething has begun, and with it has come a whole new little monster...I love him, but he can be a little frightening lately...(i.e. the pictures above=typical day) on the upside, he is absolutely adorable and is learning new tricks all the time, well when he's not insisting on being held. He has so much personality starting to show through and I am starting to be a little afraid because this kid has got some spunk. He rolls over really well both ways, but rarely chooses to do so, I think out of stubbornness, he is very possessive of his things, including sippy cup, spoons, toys, etc. If you try to take something from him, he lets you know you've wronged him unforgiveably. 

He sits up pretty well on his own and loves reading books. His favorite book, ok I only have about 3 books for him, but the one he likes best of those three is this snowman book- for some reason he thinks it is the best thing since mommas milk!

We decided to take a close up family picture- and what are the odds that mom and dad would be having trouble but the baby is perfectly positioned and ready to go- he positioned himself so well!

David tried to set himself on fire while starting up the grill- he singed his eyebrows, eyelashes, front of his hair and all his arm hair...it smelled awful and it looks hysterical!

Ethan also loves his hiking pack which he is actually big enough for now...looking forward to the summer, but he just loves his daddy and being right there on his daddy's back is too wonderful for words, and I'm sure even if he could use words, he wouldn't! Anyway there you have it, we're just livin' the dream- just the three of us and life couldn't get any better!

We Just Completed a Marathon...

Everyone is doing it nowadays- maybe it's a midlife crisis kind of thing, maybe it's to get in shape, maybe it's to feel some sense of accomplishment, or just plain to try something new....for whatever reason everyone is doing it. I wish I could say we had just run, like cross country run, however ours was a marathon of weddings. This holiday season was spent not merely singing carols, Christmas shopping, and opening presents, and eating Christmas feasts, but wedding shopping, attending luncheons and ceremonies and driving EVERYWHERE!!!!!
 Here's our road map of travels... November 19-Salt Lake for Tiannas wedding & luncheon, 24-Twin Falls and Burley for Thanksgiving, December 10-Burley for douple reception, 17-Logan for Kassie's wedding and then Pocatello for her ring ceremony/reception, 20-Salt Lake for Deidre's wedding, luncheon & reception, then back to Boise until 24-Burley for Christmas Eve 25-Twin falls Christmas Day...we are COMPLETELY traveled out!
ok a little dramatic, but in all honesty we have a HUGE feeling of accomplishment, and though the Christmas season felt so rushed and I thought I missed out on giving my little boy the best first Christmas ever, I think we did alright and I wanted to make this blog in honor of the season...so here it is, reminiscing our first holiday season with little E...oh and most people take pictures of the brides on their wedding day, I guess we are just super obsessed with ourselves because we just took pictures of us at their weddings, lol!

Well it's official- my little baby is no longer a baby- he's a little boy, I mean he may as well get his drivers license and then leave for college, that's how fast the time is flying, or so it seems. 2011 was quite an adventure with tons of changes, so we're excited to see what new adventures await us in 2012!
